CPC: Middle Grade and Younger Readers

Name: Abby
Genre: a hint of the supernatural...

Current (Completed) Project: MG novel, 8th grader Riley Razer doesn't realize how invisible she's become until Angela Cole, a freshly minted guardian angel arrives. Angela doesn't realize she's an angel nor is she willing to share the spotlight. Can this tentative friendship have a productive outcome? Or will Angela suffer the consequences and Riley be invisible forever?

Current WIP: YA novel, a spin-off of Beauty and the Beast where the Beast is Grant Bell, who has a year to figure out how to break the curse of the Gargoyle and the Beauty is Paige Vedma, a witch who can't control her powers and whose mother refuses to acknowledge her daughter's extracurricular activities. Will the curse kill Grant or can Paige manipulate her powers to help him survive?

Crit Needed: A full read/long term partnership/query critique/cheerleader/all of the above

Looking For: A partner who can help me improve. I want a tough crit that will challenge me and my writing (of each MS) and make it better. I prefer readers who are brutally honest and specific in their critique, but who would splash a little sunshine in. If possible, I'd like to have someone who is willing to do everything from line editing to plot development.

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Current Project: "Seven year-old K. only knows one way to survive bullies : fight back. However she soon finds out it only makes some bullies meaner. She gets trapped in a vicious fighting circle until she discovers a magic stone that will ultimately show her the way out."

Crit Needed: A full read/lifelong love/chocolate cake/cheerleading/all of the above.

Looking For: A partner who can take me to the next level. I'm not looking to be babied. I want a tough crit that will challenge this manuscript and make it better. I don't mind readers who are brutally honest but I want an explanation for all comments and feedbacks. The why is very important, along with a "how to fix". If possible, I'd like to have someone who is willing to do everything from line editing to plot development. You will receive the same commitment from me.

Name: Carrie
Genre: Adventure/Fantasy

Current Project: Jonas Glick and his sister Hillary live in The Gallery of Important Things, a hidden museum that their ancestors have been protecting for thousands of years.  When their evil uncle shows up looking for a powerful artefact, things start to look bad. When he
unleashes his army of stylish zombies and brings everything in the Gallery to life, things get a whole lot worse. Jonas has to decide who he can trust and uncover the Gallery’s secrets fast, or Uncle Brumby is going to destroy the world – starting with the people that Jonas loves most.

Crit Needed: I am almost done my 117th (conservative estimate) draft. I would like to start with a few pages (first chapter?) to see if we like each other’s work and see how it goes from there.

Looking For: I would like an honest and constructive crit that will really improve my story and get it ready for querying. I am looking for somebody who reads A LOT of MG and who can look through my manuscript focusing on continuity, character development and language that isn’t working (so, basically everything!). I have never had a crit partner before so I’m not exactly sure how all of this works, but I want to find somebody whose work I enjoy as well so we can help each other get better.

Name: HeatherM
Genre: MG fantasy, YA dystopian

Current Project: YA: About a girl who's kidnapped from a futuristic Las Vegas in a botched raid by eco-terrorists and must survive among them, learning enough to escape. MG: About a girl who, accompanying her ghost hunter father, solves a supernatural mystery in the early 1900s.
Crit Needed: At this point, partial reads, some idea bouncing.

Looking For: Someone with a good sense of plot & story logic who can say "this isn't working" or "I don't buy that." If you've got a strong handle on story  craft I'd love to work with you.

Genre: Fantasy

Current Project: Danger in Moss Mine, Angus Aurora is my MC and he struggles to be seen in the shadow of his older sister. Their mother is murdered under mysterious circumstances and a stranger takes them to a ghost town. There, Angus learns that ghosts do exist, he is strong and capable, and his family isn’t as typical as he imagined they were.

Crit Needed: I’m happy with a partial or a full (I haven't written the last two chapters just yet), and eventually hope to need a query critique. I’m interested in building a long-term relationship with a partner.

Looking For: This is my first WIP, so I probably need a critique partner who can be honest about the big picture of my writing. I need to know if I have any potential, if this manuscript has any potential, and what my big story-arc problems are - though I’m open to line-edits and whatever else anyone offers.

Name: Keith
Genre: Adventurous or Creepy. Or both!

Current Project: Just sent my agent what I hope is a final polish for submission. I just started an older MG adventure with a girl MC who is secretly descended from a famous do-gooder.

Crit Needed: I’d love to find a group for swapping chapter length partials up to whole manuscripts. I’m not interested in passing around 5 page samples.

Looking For: Constructive, brutal honesty. No cheerleading, smiley faces or gifs of Snoopy with pom poms.

Name: Liz Hales
Genre: Scary MG

Current Project: The urban legend says she was taken at birth and raised by wolves. Now, she attacks campers who venture too far into the woods surrounding Camp Gooseberry, where Olivia, Joey and Zach are spending the summer.

Crit Needed: For now, a partial read, and maybe a cheerleaderJ, but I’m hoping to find someone I can work with long-term.

Looking For: Someone who is really good at seeing the big picture, can give insight on plot and character development, pacing, voice, etc. I want someone who won’t nit-pick my rough draft.

Current Project: Witch Stone. Rossi has only one witch stone instead of two. Could it be that instead of a handicap, as she has always believed, it is a special gift? And what does the appearance of a strange boy and a new apprentice for Rossi's mother have to do with it?

Crit Needed: A  partial for now and then a full.

Looking for: A partner who is in the same in between space of not quite there, but not a newbie, that I am.

Name: Bethany
Genre: Christian storybook (currently)

Current project: This is the Christian picture story book. Most of my PBs are just stuff to make kids laugh, but this one is important to me and I want to get it right. It's about how God created everyone for a purpose, and God will show us that purpose in His own time.

Crit needed badly: I want someone who isn't ME to look at it for a while. I need to know if I'm doing the whole storybook thing right, since I've never written one before. Or if someone has an idea to really trim the fat and turn it into a straight PB, I'd be open to that too.

Looking for: Someone who isn't a jerk. I can't find anyone who knows anything about children's books in my hometown, and everywhere I look online I'm met with a certain sneering disdain that really gets old. Apparently I'm the new kid at school and the cliques have already been formed well before I discovered they existed. I really want to improve my writing, but being told I'm "too green" for an online crit group doesn't help me.

Genre: not sure?
Current Project: Currently editing my first draft of a PB about a girl who finds a cat and takes the cat in. The cat, Sammi, becomes part of the family, taking over their backyard and garage as his playground and home. Then one day while the family is on a trip, there is a bad snow storm and Sammi disappears. The girl worries, can't sleep and has bad dreams. Sammi eventually comes back and Sarah, the girl, comes to realize he's a wandering cat, but this will always be his home and that he'll always come back. I also have a YA in the beginning stages about a high school girl who befriends a muslim girl and how that affects her friendships, her social status, etc. The muslim girl will become a pretty strong secondary character that allows us to see how being friends with someone who is not muslim affects her own life, and how people view her.

Crit Needed: A full read on the PB/ a partial read of the YA since partial is all I've got or one or the other.

Looking For: While I'm not new to writing, I am new to the idea of pursuing publication. I need someone to be honest with me about my quality of writing. Can you see the story published? What are things I need to do to improve it? Does it have serious potential? I'm not interested in hand holding. If it's good, awesome. If it's bad, I really need to know.
