Once I Was A Big Boy

The title of this post? Yeah, that's how Dino Boy starts all his stories right now.

"Once I was a big boy, and there were aliens and I SHOOTED them!"

"Once I was a big boy, and I had a sniper gun because I was SPACE MARINE!"

"Once I was a big boy, and I had a T-REX who ate all the other dinosaurs!"

Future writer? I think so.

It's amazing how early storytelling calls to us. For whatever reason, there's something in us that makes us imagine and dream and all that good stuff. I love watching my kids create their own worlds where anything can happen. Everything is magic to them, wonderful, new. I love seeing the world again through their eyes. It reminds me how amazing life truly is.

Anyway, that's my short thought for the day. I'll be signing off early this week for the holiday. But next week is contest time again! (Which means I should probably hurry and finish that final crit from LAST contest...sheesh, I'm lame.)

  3. :)

Too cute. I think things like this might be another reason mothers can be such great writers. I mean, if my coworkers told stories like this, I'd be concerned, not amused/inspired!

  7. Oh, that is so cute! My daughter spends a lot of time being a Princess with a British accent. (guess there isn't much royalty in the U.S.)

One of my nieces used to start stories with "When I was a mom … "

  11. Hah! One of my twins does the same thing, only it's "One time, I was a princess and..."

It's a match made in heaven, Natalie! We have to get them together. ;)

  12. Cute! My own Dino Boy likes to say, "When I was a grownup..." fill in the blank. It doesn't have quite the storytelling flair of starting off with "Once" but still makes me smile.

  13. My little sister says she's not going to grow up because she wants to be little forever. Then I ask her, "Well, how did I grow up?". "You were born that way."
