Happy NaNo!

Oh, NaNoWriMo, how you've set the internet aflame with excitement! I rather enjoy watching writers work for their NaNo goals each year, though I've never participated myself. I mean, I've written a novel in 15 days. I don't need help speeding up—I need help slowing down. (Actually, I've learned A LOT about slowing down this year.)

So here's to you, NaNo writers! Good luck! You can do it! If you need motivation, let me know. I am a big fan of the pep talk, if you haven't noticed. I will gladly cheer you on!

Today, I start my NaNoReaMo adventures. Twelve books. Thirty days. I've even decided that I'm going to stop editing and use this time to let poor Transparent simmer. I'm so excited to dig into these books! So many of them I've wanted to read all year.

My tentative plan is to read one book Monday through Wednesday, the next Wednesday trough Friday, and the third over the weekend. *Gulp* That's such a challenge for this slow reader! And so you know, there will be a temporary feature each Sunday on my blog—What I Read This Week—where I will share some of my thoughts on the books I finished.

If you are reading like I am, please let me know! I'd love to see what you're reading as well. And if you are doing the traditional NaNo, you are completely excused from reading my blog until you hit that 50k. But after that, I expect you to catch up. No, kidding. With all the reading I have to do, I'm sure November will be rather dull around here.

  2. Ooh, I like that NaNoReaMo idea! I've participated in NaNoWriMo 3 years in a row, but never won because my stories tend to be around 35,000 words. So instead I'm just focusing on writing 30 min. every day in Nov. instead. Happy reading though! I may join you in this endeavor. :)

  3. Good luck!!!

While NaNo seems like a cool thing and for a lot of people, it is a good kick start...when I'm in writing mode (as opposed to editing mode), I write and meet daily goals, just like NaNo...but I don't feel the need to wait til one specific month each year to do it.

  4. Good luck with the reading! I think I'm gonna have a harder time this year winning NaNo goal but I'm still going to try :) Even if I only get a few thousand written this time, it's something.

  7. Good luck with your reading month. I tried that once and was an epic fail, but I did read one book, I think. Maybe two. I'm sure you'll do better. Have fun!

  9. Good luck with the reading. It's a great idea if you're not writing for the month.

  10. So, wait a minute...
You wrote a book in 15 days and didn't even tell us about it?!
Or maybe you did and it was before I started reading your blog.
What was your process? What was it like? I want to hear more about that.

  11. I love your idea... but I did that last month. Not a book a day, but I think I went through 24 books in 31 days...

But now I'm doing NaNoWriMo... and the first day was a success!

I hope it helps me take each day one at a time. I tend to get bogged down by big picture sorts of things, until I think I truly haven't done anything worthwhile.

  12. Thanks for the encouragement! I am underway with NaNoWriMo and am already ahead of the word count needed for Day 1. Good luck to you with your NaNoReaMo. It sounds fun. I actually read a lot and fast, but I'm not sure how many books I could get through in a month. I do feel that "so many books, not enough time" is true.

  13. Good luck with the reading! I'll be attempting your list, although I have to skip over a few because I haven't read the first books in the series.

  15. Good luck. I'll be reading though not as fast as you. I have to work and try to get some writing in. Glad to see someone else not doing NaNo.

  16. I too don't have a problem writing 50K in 30 days... but I've never thought about slowing down. Now I'm thinking about it.

  18. I'm going to purchase "Hooked on Phonics" then maybe I can read as fast as you. Who knows, I might even get my own commercial and everything then this writing dream will be but a memory.

  20. NaNoReaMo? Who came up with that one? It's brilliant! But since I'm doing the WriMo I will not be reading as much this month :(

  22. Oh, I'd love to do NaNoReaMo. But instead, I am using NaNoWriMo to propel me toward my Jan 1st deadline for my second novel. So have fun reading! And thanks for the idea--maybe I'll treat myself with an intense reading period when I meet my deadline.
