On the Great Road Trip of 2011, Sara and I had the privilege of staying with our friend Renee, who lives near Grand Junction, Colorado. It was so fun to visit Renee for once, since she's usually the one driving out to Utah. And now that I know it's not that far to her place? Well, I might be more motivated to visit.
Anyway, while I was there I drew her daughter this picture. You be surprised how easy it is to get a kid to like you when you can draw. They think it's some magical thing! Yes, I'm admitting that I bribe kids into liking me with my drawing skills. It's kind of an ice breaker, I guess. Sometimes kids can be shy, and there's nothing like a few pictures to make them smile. That, and Renee's daughter gave up her room for me for the night, so I had to say thank you somehow. And there's nothing like a mermaid to show appreciation.
:D It's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely sketch:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of your drawing skills :D
ReplyDeleteLOVE mermaids. Beautiful drawing!
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with this gorgeous drawing is that now my daughter will always see my pathetic attempts at drawing mermaids for what they are. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful picture. You could bribe me with pictures like that!
ReplyDeleteOoooh that's fabulous! You would be my daughter's best friend!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really great picture! And I generally don't say that since I've been surrounded by artists since before I was born. (That makes sense, doesn't it?) And your signature is beautiful! That's a signature made just for signing things, I tell you.
ReplyDeleteoh, loverly!
ReplyDeleteSweet! I've tried drawing anime, but it feels forced. I'll just stick to how I know how to draw. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of my art? ;)
PS--oh yes, I know what you mean about getting kids to like you when you draw them something! I leave tokens to friends like you when they do something nice for me! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
You're so creative - writing AND drawing? Not fair.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. Keep up the good work. :D
Beautiful mermaid. When I was young I always wanted to sketch beautiful mermaids. Kind of had a thing for Ariel. But my sketches never came out right.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, how clever of you.
ReplyDeleteLove the drawing!! You should work for Disney =P
ReplyDeleteOoh, so pretty! I'm super impressed! I've never gotten better than stick figures.
ReplyDeleteCute! I love it.

ReplyDeleteOoooo, pretty! Kind of like Ariel, but waaaay cooler! I'd like to see your interpretation of all the Disney princesses.
ReplyDeleteTotally true about kids liking you. I used to do that at the orphanage we worked at years ago.
ReplyDeleteOf course, once they learn you can do it, they want you to do it for them ALL THE TIME. But at least they like you.
That is a really great drawing. I'm quite envious sometimes of people who can draw so well. Takes a lot of practice to let the lines flow so naturally like that.

Beautiful drawing! My 12 year old has a talent for drawing like you, it amazes me every time. She loves to draw anime (or as she imformed me more accurately manga)at the moment.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, we were dicussing the kind of jobs/careers the kids would like to have when they grew up on a recent car trip. 12 yo wants to be an architect, 10 yo son would like to be a PE teacher (if he doesn't become an AFL [Aussie Rules] football player), my 3 yo daughter decided on a faery princess, but finally settled for becoming a mermaid faery! Oh what it is to be three!
Sounds like your mermaid swam right into her heart. (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeletethat is awesome and i would so be your friend too if you drew me a picture that beautiful! :-)
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love Grand Junction! Went to a baseball tournament there and it was so fun. Hope your visit was great!
