Weekend Sketch (Painting, really)

I have always liked to paint, and I've always been kind of horrible at it. But lately it's been one of those cathartic things I do when I'm super stressed. It's just fun to mess around with. There's something about getting a little messy and mixing colors that makes me forget my worries for a moment.

So this is a water lily I painted for Kiersten. Sometimes I like to motivate my friends with prizes when they're writing. I convinced her this was worth getting to 50k, mwahaha.

And now I'm going back to being sick. It's like my full time job right now.

  1. Love. I can't wait until I'm writing something that you need to convince me to keep writing. :)

  2. So wonderful you can reach to another talent when you're feeling a little burned-out on another--sounds like a beautiful healing process! And your painting is lovely! I like the contrasting colors.

  3. That is so pretty. The colors are vivid and fun: soothing and calm with that bright pop of pink petals.

  5. I like to paint with my kids for the same reason. I'm with midnightblooms: your color combination is both captivating and soothing.

  7. That's such a beautiful image! The colors are so vibrant, and I know the water lily's pink, but I see it almost like flames. Fire and water make a nice contrast.

  8. I think that looks great - I wish I could paint something that "horrible". Love the vibrancy.

    Feel better!

Oh wait, I need a new manuscript first.

  12. Pretty. My painting abilities consist of blobs. My drawings are stick figures where the legs are at a funny angle to the body. I admire people who are better artists than I am.

  16. It's funny because painting and drawing are a few of the things that I know I can do, I've got the MFA to prove it. It's writing that I never know if I'm really 'qualified' to do. When I'm really stuck, when I'm slamming my head against a wall (and for my WIP right now it's at 60K) I draw a picture from my WIP. I drew a sketch of the City in my book. I could concentrate on what it would look like, how the concentric walls guarding the city would work and that helped me diffuse the tension fizzing around my writer's block. I didn't have to go 'through' the wall. In drawing it, I found a way of going over it.

  18. Sorry you're sick. We've got it around here too and it's miserable. I don't think you suck at painting at all!

  19. Even when you're sick you create beautiful things. Someday I'm going to convince you to draw one of my characters. I can offer sushi, ice cream and a hot tub? :)

  21. It looks rather nice.

My artistic skills are limited to sketches of landscapes. It's rather underdeveloped.
