I made these Berry Blondies to keep me company all night. True story.
So we've been going through some life changes here at the Whipple house. One of them is the fact that my husband got a new job! Which, YAY. Seriously, I will not miss my insurance regime one bit. But the new job comes with an interesting change—Nick is working swing and weekends, so now he's gone in the afternoon/evening.
Today is Day 1 of the change, and it's definitely weird to be sitting here while he's still at work. I am very aware of the items in my house that could be used as weapons. And I may have checked the locks on every window and door. I certainly miss him, and I'm still trying to figure out how to make sure he has a decent dinner that isn't always leftovers.
It's funny, how changes seem to come all at once. You'd think they'd space themselves out, but we've had one after the other for a couple months. Change change change. Each day is a new puzzle, some easier than others but always involved. I'm rolling with it, for the most part.
All this to say that I will probably be blogging at night now, when I'm all on my lonesome, because I need to spend the time I have in the morning with Nick and the kids, like I used to in the evenings. I know people don't seem to check the blogs in the evening (at least I rarely get comments past, like, four), but you have a heads up. I hope you'll still stop by when you can!
I do my blog reading mostly in the evening, so I'll be around! Plus I'm a West Coaster, everything is later for me anyway :P
ReplyDeleteYour evening is my morning. I'm here :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm at work or in school I tend to do most of my checking in the evening. Of course that also means I don't comment a lot, because comment after 75 people already have is a little daunting for some reason... Anywho, good luck with the new change and a huge CONGRATS!!! to Nick (and you of course) for the new job!
ReplyDeleteAlso, what is a berry blondie? I've never heard of that...
Amanda, I made the Berry Blondie up. A blondie is a vanilla-ish brownie, and I put berry filling in mine. It's basically amazing:)
ReplyDeleteI'm here for you honey. You must make me some of those Berry Blondies because they look totally awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo where's the recipe for the blondies? Those look fab!
ReplyDeleteKeep busy while you adjust to your new schedule. That's what I do, and it always helps.
Congratulations to your husband on his new job. Emily's right, keep busy - especially if it involves making brownies, I mean blondies :)
ReplyDeleteYour new schedule works great for me. And how about the recipe for those berry blondies? Or at least some direction, please!
ReplyDeleteWhen there's something worth reading--ahem, your blog!-- time doesn't matter. :D
ReplyDeleteSo glad y'all are making the new schedule work. Variety is the spice of life, like adding a little berry to a brownie :D (BTW, yours look delish. My aunt makes hers with raspberry jam...so yummy.)
Take care & happy nighttime blogging!
I feel for ya. When my hubby worked swing, I worked days. Makes it really hard to spend time together except on the weekends. It's great that your schedule is more flexible.
ReplyDeleteYou're bringing some of those brownies today, right? I made rice krispie no bake cookies to match. They can play together.
ReplyDeleteI hope the changes all turn out to be for the best. The year my husband had to work until 11pm every night was the year I started blogging and such good things came from that!
ReplyDeleteAs a homeschooling mom and writer, sometimes the evening is the ONLY time I have to check and reply to blogs. I'll keep you company, especially if you'll share those Berry Blondies!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is pretty identical to the situation me and my hubby went through a few months ago. He got a new job and works nights and some weekends. Next month, though, he will get to work from home, so that's nice. It's hard with kids, though. They miss their daddy nights and I miss the help with disciplining =). And, yes, it does seem scarier without him here. I'm finally getting over that. But I used to jump at every single noise!
ReplyDeleteMy dh has to get up at 4 am to go to work and he doesn't really wake up with the alarm so it's all me makng sure he does...me as in the teacher who is off during the summers and is also 7 months pregnant and would like to sleep in! Their jobs really affect us more than they realize, i think.
ReplyDeleteSometimes his schedule varies and he has to work till 6:30 in the evening. By 5:30 I am so ready to see him!
If you're serving berry blondies and your usual stellar posts, you won't lack for company. :-)
ReplyDeleteYum!
ReplyDeleteAnd at least change has a way of keeping you on your toes, right? Keeps things exciting. Good luck getting used to the new schedule! That different of a schedule could take quite a while to adjust to.
Yay for evenings. It's morning over here!
ReplyDeleteI have a berry blondie recipe I love involving white chocolate drizzles, orange zest, and cream cheese.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my weapon of choice is a fireplace iron. I figure I'd have too get to close use a knife.
