It's January! That means I need to let go of another pretty TRANSPARENT ARC. Do you want it? We'll make this simple this month—tell me who your favorite comic book hero/heroine is in comments, and you'll be entered to win!
I've always had a soft spot for Wolverine. Regeneration is awesome in general, but add in claws and a brooding attitude and you've won me over hands down.
I'll draw a winner on January 11th. So get entering!
Oooh... good question... I'd go with Wolverine most of the time, too. I'm a Batman girl, and even a Green Arrow fan, but Wolverine's got that attitude.... Love it.
ReplyDeleteCurrently it is Batman because it helped bond my brother and me. We're 13 years apart so that's often hard.
ReplyDeleteLois Lane - she's not a superhero but she rocks! I love how spunky she is, and she keeps Superman on his toes.
ReplyDeleteWhile very cliche, I've always been a Superman girl. Blame it on Dean Cain (but I was 13 when Lois and Clark was on, so don't hold it against me!). Since junior high, I've caught up on the Christopher Reeve movies it's less embarrassing to like!
ReplyDeleteUh . . . Captain America! :) I guess those are really old comic books, and I have to admit that I didn't know much about him until the movie came out. Before that, I would have chosen Spiderman, no contest! :D
ReplyDeleteI was never into comic books so I have to cheat and go with a comic book character I fell in love with via the movie adaptation- Iron Man. I love the way RDJ has brought him to life.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a HUGE fan of Lois Lane (especially Erica Durance's version!) for the same reasons. She's amazing! I love both her interactions with Clark and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow). We dressed up as Lois and Clark for Halloween at Disneyland this year, and once a few years ago at con. We met a guy dressed as Green Arrow there and had pictures taken. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteI really do enjoy the dynamic between Rogue and Gambit (especially the 90s cartoon). I wish the movies wouldn't have messed that up since they have a long romance!
I dislike spiders, but Spider-Man is pretty awesome. Doesn't help that my husband likes to call himself Spider-Man--- orphaned, raised by a strong woman, witty, and smart. I really want him in The Avengers where he belongs!
I like Batman, because if I befriended him in real life, maybe he would let me borrow his car. Or at least drive me around in it. :) And of course, he'd rescue me if some evil person came after me.
ReplyDeleteRogue from x-men, i loved her story. And I think her and Gambit had the sweetest love story, still bummed they didn't work it into the movies. Here's hoping for a reboot!
ReplyDeleteSpiderman. Probably because he seems more humble than the rest. Or maybe because he's a huge nerd like me ;).
ReplyDeleteCan I say Batgirl? I had a Batgirl costume when I was little, and would always make my mom be the villain and Alfred (I once made her saw me in half—with cardboard, of course—and then come to my rescue). That was *technically* from the old BAM! WHIFF! POW! tv show, not the comic, but hopefully she counts. :-P
ReplyDelete—Kayla
Well, rats. I've never read any comic books. My mother, an English teacher, was afraid I wouldn't read regular books if I got hooked on books with pictures, (I wasn't a big reader until I got to college). But I have to say, my favorite character in the movie adaptations, apart from Iron Man, (love the attitude!) would have to be Lex Luthor. Superman was always too wholesome to make an interesting character, and Luthor made the perfect contrast.
ReplyDeleteI like Jean Gray. Psychic superpowers always fascinated me. Wasn't a fan of what that third X-Men movie did though.
ReplyDeleteSpiderman! I love his motto "with great power comes great responsibility".
ReplyDeleteWONDER WOMAN! She hangs out in her underwear and a tiara all day long. That's my kind of girl!!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a huge Batman fan! BEST SUPER HERO EVER! I even dress my son in Batman things all the time! we sadly lost one of his Batman socks:( What happens to the lost socks anyway?
ReplyDeleteDaredevil. Yay for superhero lawyers!
ReplyDeleteX-Men is full of some awesome super heroes, but my favorite has always been Batman because he's so broody and broken inside and he could be anyone of us with a ridiculous amount of money and fight/weapons training. :)
ReplyDeleteIron Man! (But only the Robert Downy Jr. version. :D)
ReplyDeleteThat’s a tough one. I haven’t read a lot of comics, and I’m not sure if manga count. (If they do, Sakura Kinomoto from CLAMP’s Cardcaptor Sakura! She totally counts as a superhero, right? I like how she doesn’t have the slightly weird secondary power of transforming her outfit as many magical girls do, and I like her “type” of adventures. Her magical powers are pretty cool too.)
ReplyDeleteI’ve always liked Spider-Man because I remember him as my introduction to superheroes in general (not counting the Powerpuff Girls, haha), but as far as the actual comics go I’m only familiar with … I think it’s called Ultimate Spider-Man. Peter Parker’s terrible sense of humour always makes me smile. :) Or facepalm.
Oh, but recently someone also showed me some Hawkeye comics that were released in 2012. I liked Hawkeye’s female sidekick, Kate Bishop, quite a lot in that—better than most females in superhero comics I’m familiar with.
Either Cyclops or Batman. Cyclops because he always seemed to come in second to Wolverine (even when he didn't, there was just something about him that screamed second place) and I've always rooted for the underdog. Batman because his real superpower was gadgets, and gadgets are cool. I've also found myself liking Iron Man a lot more lately, again because his superpower is mostly his brains.
ReplyDeleteNow I feel like I want to dig up some X-Men comics...
Thanks for the giveaway!
THORRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! And not just from the movie, Thor, or The Avengers. I love Norse mythology, and I absolutely love Thor. Although, Chris Hemsworth played an AWESOME Thor :D
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway!
Either Gambit or Rogue. (I guess they kinda go hand-in-hand sometimes). I like Gambit's card-throwing abilities, which are pretty cool and unique, not just, like, super strength or whatever. Rogue is also pretty independent, so I like that.
ReplyDeleteI don't read much in the way of "comic books" - I'm a manga girl! But if I can go off of movies, Iron Man, definitely. He's brilliant and talented and not afraid to say so, and he always comes through. ;) If I CAN pick from manga, I'd say Inu-Yasha. He's infinitely brave and never gives up, and despite his ferocious nature he can be really sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! Can't wait to read TRANSPARENT!
I'm a Batman girl. I love the darkness that is apparent and how he has to fight that through all he does. They're raw in a way that I just appreciate.
ReplyDelete(As a young girl, my favorite comic was ALF. I would like to make him my second choice. No, he is not a super hero, but he's still all kinds of cool. And he IS from another planet!)
I don't read much comic books. (If a manga hero/heroine is also fine, then I like L from Death Note the most - he is always eating candy, super smart, cute and funny.)But I like Lambik from Suske and Wiske (Belgian comic); he is pretty dumb, but you can laugh with him :).
ReplyDeleteAnd your blog is really awesome. I can't wait to read Transparant.
Fun question! I liked the X-men (Rogue) in my younger days, but then I became a big Spiderman fan. :)
ReplyDeleteWonder Woman is my longtime favorite because, well, I had a Wonder Woman costume when I was young, and she was one of the most powerful female role models I had growing up. She was tough and smart and fought crime and ricocheted bullets off her wrist cuffs!
ReplyDeleteRogue is a very close second favorite because she is also tough and smart and has that fantastic southern accent. Also she has Gambit and there is something about that sexy Cajun that just makes me tingle...he's good, but he's not too good.
The favorite comic book hero/heroine question is like what's your favorite color? I need context! I'll go ahead with my childhood favorite though and say Wolverine. But gah, that was your answer!
ReplyDeleteMay seem a little strange, but my favorite is actually Alfred (the butler) from Batman. Mostly, he's just the behind the scenes guy who gets no credit for anything and has an immense amount of stuff trusted to him. I married a guy who is a lot like that.
ReplyDeleteI like the more obscure guys, like Silver Surfer and the Atom. My hubby told me about Squirrel Girl, who sounds like the lamest character ever, but actually defeats the toughest mpnster/villain. Or there's Leach. Or a ton of others that get lost behind the big names. If you only know your heroes from the movies, you are missing out.
I don't really read comics and never did much. What's wrong with me? So I'd have to go with Batgirl because I like strong girl characters.
ReplyDeleteI've always been a big Rogue and Batman fan, especially during the cartoon-laden 90's era. Inside comic books, though, my favorite is probably Cassie, the second Batgirl. Or the penguins in "Tiny Titans." Or really anyone in "Tiny Titans." It's such a fun series!
ReplyDeleteI've only read a few comic books, and I believe they were all X-Men. But I get my Wolverine and Rogue love mostly from the movies, too. Nightcrawler, however, I seem to recall learning to love from a couple of the books.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to choose a lone favorite from those three, though. Probably if I read more of the comics, I'd end up preferring Nightcrawler.
Carrie-Jo, I loved Dean Cain as Superman when I was in my teens! Embarrassing or not, though, I have to admit that he's still my favorite Superman. Maybe I watched Christopher Reeve at the wrong age. ;)
I've always loved superman but recently Iron man is my favorite. I mean he has it all, the looks, the brains, and the money:)
ReplyDeleteLove Nightcrawler, Storm, and Phoenix!
ReplyDeleteAnd we've named our kittehs after X-Men: Logan, Vagner, Rogue, and Storm.
We want to find a Beast kitteh.... lol
Oooh, thanks for the contest! I'm so excited to read this, good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character is definitely Iron Man. Especially as acted by the glorious Robert Downey Jr. *drools*
I like Aquaman!
ReplyDeleteBatman. End of story.
ReplyDeleteBeastboy!
ReplyDeleteI always loved the Teen Titans comics, and who wouldn't want to be able to change into animals, super cool super power!
I love Stephanie Brown as Batgirl. Damian Wayne (Robin) is awesome too.
ReplyDeleteMy whole family kinda has to like the Batfamily- there's just an extra letter in our name that keeps it from being Batman. It IS really funny when you make a Powerpoint in your engineering class and it involves Batman.... and you accidentally call yourself Batman.
I love what Marvel has been doing with the movies; the casting is PERFECT!!!!
I like Spider-Man. And not just the movies. The actual comics. Marvel just does it better than DC.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read many comic books yet, and I'll go with a "classic": I like Spiderman! I've actually been fascinated with spiders my whole life.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveway!!
I love most of the characters in the MARVEL world because although they have exceptional powers the characters generally have tragic circumstances which plays a role in who they want to be whether that be the bad guy/good guy if I was to choose though THOR because of the Norse mythology its so interesting and I must admit as well his brother LOKI is good at being a bad guy I am basing this on the movie the actors that play these role are so easy on the eye take a look Le sigh.

Jiraiya is the bomb. It's between him and Magneto, who I've always thought is also the bomb.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! As a kid, I loved Meggan, the shapeshifter of Excalibur. She could be anything she wanted -- as long as she learned to master herself. Rogue comes in a close second. --Christi
ReplyDeleteI would probably say spiderman is my favorite. Honestly though I don't know comic books all that well. Can't wait to read Transparent!
ReplyDeleteSpider-Man, hands down. Nerdy guy gets super-powers, complemented by his jokes and nerdy nerdiness? Yes, please.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be Black Canary :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE Spiderman :)
ReplyDeletektgonyea at gmail.com
I always had a soft spot in my heart for Loki. I realize that's an unpopular vote. OR, OR, L from Deathnote. Does that count? (I love L. Also, my pug-mix dog looks like Ryuk.)
ReplyDeleteJeez. Stay on topic, Kat.
Emma Frost from the X-Men. Even though I often question her ethics (and lack of clothing) I feel strangely like I can relate to her.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite (currently, at least) is Black Widow. She was in The Avengers movie as well as the comics. I love how she's so daring and confident, yet also has a shadowy past. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteiron man he is hilarious
ReplyDeleteMan, hard to pick just one but I have to go with Spiderman...he is so romantic!!!
ReplyDeletesherri419 at gmail dot com
Batman is the best!
ReplyDeleteum...helllllo?!?! Rogue!!!! and I want to win this time fo sho
ReplyDeleteProfessor X because people with disabilities can be super heroes too. In fact they often are.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tie between Robin from the 60s television Batman series and Wonder Woman. Love her golden lasso and bracelets!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of Captain Marvel. I mean, he's an orphan. And totally normal, well disadvantaged really. And he then becomes a total BAMF. How can you not get behind that?
ReplyDeleteI'm choosing Jean Grey/Marvel Girl/Phoenix/Dark Phoenix. I'm a huge fan of the Dark Phoenix saga in the X-Men comics. She dies so many times, but she recreates herself each time. Good or bad.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest comic (or manga) obsession I've ever had was Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon by Naoko Takeuchi. I have a soft spot for Rei, since she was the one I always pretended to be when I was a kid, but Usagi carried the story with her personal growth and compassion for others. Other comic heroes may have saved the world a few times, but Sailor Moon had to die for it and get perpetually reincarnated, and then eventually saved the entire universe.
ReplyDeletePlus, she has Mamoru.
I mean, come on.
Does this include manga too? One of my favorite characters is Light from Death Note, though he isn't so much a hero as a villain.
ReplyDeleteIf manga doesn't count then I say Batman. Or Iron Man. From the movies. I haven't read any comic books, though I do happen to own some, haha. I say Iron Man! Batman's too serious :D
I love Batman and Robin as a team, but I think my favorite single character is Nightcrawler. Or Gambit, but Gambit is not always a hero, so. I'm sticking with blue and fuzzy.
ReplyDeleteTeenage Muntant Ninja Trutles! They're turtles, eat pizza, and kick butt! =) I tend to overlook the fact that they live in a sewer...eww.
ReplyDelete'Mutant' =)
DeleteEver since I was a kid, my favorite comic book hero is Superman! Who wouldn't want to be super and do extraordinary things? :)
ReplyDeletejessellevillegas@gmail.com
My favorite 3-year-old in the world is currently convinced he's Iron Man, wears his costume EVERYWHERE, and tells me intricate stories about who he's been battling and all the people he's saved. So... I'm gonna have to go with that version of Iron Man. He's just so tiny and cute and passionate about his work. ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess the Thing from Fantastic Four. Not quite sure why?!
ReplyDeleteI love dark comics...Aaron Boone of NIGHTBREED was always one of my favorite, unlikely heroes. If you enjoy Clive Barker, you will enjoy his 25 issue run based on his book CABAL. In college, I was snowed in at a friend's apartment when I discovered this series, many moons ago. I remember staying up all night to read most of this series and almost all of my friend's X-Men comics. I also remember feeling like a twelve-year-old boy, lounging under a bunk bed with a flashlight, because the power went out.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun contest prompt, Natalie and I enjoyed reading all the other entries!
Best of luck, everyone!
I was never much of a comic girl. I mean, I enjoyed X-Men the cartoon - does that count? If so, Rogue was my fave.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest!
theirishbanana.review@gmail.com
Have to admit, never really read a comic book, but I do remember watching Wonderwoman on TV when I was little. The hair, that headband, that outfit, those boots!! Add the twirling for effect - it was killer!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Transparent!
As a kid my favorite was always Superman. Now...well, I still think that the character has a lot of potential, but that he is hardly ever used in an interesting way. The various Green Lanterns are also characters that I really enjoyed reading about.
ReplyDeleteOn the Marvel side, my favorite was probably Scott Summers/Cyclops. Especially since I really did not like Wolverine, and generally still don't. (Wait...did I just get disqualified? Darn it!) I like how Cyclops was always the character that would try to do the right thing. Granted his perception of what that is has gotten...interesting...lately, but still. And also, he married a hot redhead, and coming from a family of redheads (though my hair is more brown than red these days) that makes me happy.
The only comic series I really read is the Buffy extended series. I agree the show had to end but I still enjoy seeing Joss' humor on the page. I am a tad bit obsessed with him. A tad.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big reader of comics, but I used to love Tintin. He's not a super hero, but I think he was still a hero in his own way :)
ReplyDeletesuperman
ReplyDeleteI totally have a thing for Hawkeye. This may or may not be because he was super fine in The Avengers. ;) Also, I adore Thor. He is so dreamy and strong and manly. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteFrom the comics and cartoon show, my favorites were Rogue and Gambit. Not so much in the movies, sadly.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact that I'm Canadian, my favourite superhero is Captain America. I'm fairly certain this is at least in part due to Chris Evans, but I know it's also because I love the era that Captain America comes from.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really in to comic books, but I loved Black Widow in The Avengers movie. Girl Assassins are the best!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read many comic books, but from the comic book-inspired movies I've seen, my favorite is Thor.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a big comic book reader, but I always loved watching the X-Men cartoons when I was younger. Rogue is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHuge comic book fan, been collecting since I was a kid. But Storm aka Ororo Munroe has always done it for me. What I wouldn't give to be mistress of the elements. I always loved the toying marvel did with her and Logan's relationship. In the "What if" additions she and Logan had a daughter Kendell Logan aka Torrent. Always preferred him and storm than Jean Grey.
ReplyDeleteI'm much more of a manga girl myself (my favorite manga hero is Natsu from Fairy tail) but I do have a favorite comic hero which is Batman. What's more bad-ass than a hero who doesn't actually have powers but still kick some major booty?!
ReplyDeleteMine has always been Batman!
ReplyDeleteIs the giveaway US only?
Superman. And this is purely based on the upcoming movie with Henry Cavill. It looks SO GOOD!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the Batman!
ReplyDeleteedgenemmers@gmail.com
I'm a Batman fan. :]
ReplyDeleteclarkmurdock@yahoo.com
Mystique. She's rather awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI like Catwoman. She's much more complex that she seems at first glance.
ReplyDelete*than
ReplyDelete:-)
I like wonderwoman
ReplyDeleteMy fave is Wonder Woman :)
ReplyDeletegosh...hmm... I think I have to go with The Scarlet Witch. I have never read to many comics, I read this one at my neighbors many years ago. Gives me props,I still remeber it!
ReplyDeletecat woman is my favorite
ReplyDeletesusansmoaks at gmail dot com
Sandman :D
ReplyDeletelesly7ch(at)yahoo(dot)com
batman because he's kind of an anti-hero type. his whole superhero status is complex because it really begun as a form of revenge for his parents death.
ReplyDeleteAlso he drives a bat -mobile . you've got to give him points for that.
missymoo-09@live.com.au
Can I pick two heroes? Then it would be Storm and Jean from X-Men.My favourite hero's imaginary.I'd like to imagine her with a fusion of powers from both Storm and Jean.I know, wierd. But I have quite an active imagination. If you want I can write down the full description for you.LOL. :D
ReplyDeletenobonitachowdhury@yahoo.com
My favorite hero is Wolverine, but I really like all the X-Men. I just really like the whole mutant thing. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love Wonderwoman! Girl power!
ReplyDeletejsweeps318 at gmail dot com
batman is my favorite hero!
ReplyDeletecb_shorty2003@yahoo.com
Superman is my favorite. garrettsambo@aol.com
ReplyDeleteDefinitely has to be Batman for me!
ReplyDeleteBut Wolverine is a Drunken Hobbit!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a fan of the genre, but the only version of Logan I can stand is the Hugh Jackman one.
I would have said Spidey.
Spiderman for the win!
ReplyDelete
