Sorcerer Sketch

Well, I'm still messing around in Photoshop. It's like having a whole Art Warehouse at your disposal! There's so much to explore, but every time I go in I feel like I have more control and understanding.

Remember how last week I posted a rough sketch of characters from The Assistant? Well, this would be a more detailed sketch of Geoff. I know. He's nice looking.

I'll give the ladies a second to swoon.

Okay, we good? Good. Going more in depth like this helps me get to know a character better. I think about personality/backstory a lot while I draw, so that's basically a good five hours of character development right there. Huh, perhaps a picture IS worth a thousand words...

I know not everyone can draw or likes anime (which makes me sad), so this method of character development is fairly personal. But it just goes to show that there are many ways to write, and some of them might not even involve words.

That's it for me this week, but get ready for next week! I am hereby dubbing it The Week of Contests, Games, and PRIZES.

  3. Very nice. I love Photoshop. Love it. I love it so much I didn't sell back the textbook on it from this semester.

    Looking forward to next week.

  4. Today, I tried drawing one of my characters on the board, between classes. Results? Not fit for public consumption.

I wish I could sketch. You're so lucky!

Looking forward to contests. I've also got a contest running. A KitKat contast on my blog :)

  6. QUITE fetching! I, too, am addicted to Photoshop ... and alas, I no longer have a current version on my home laptop. On my work computer I have paint.net, a shareware program that does much the same thing, but without some of the ease of Photoshop.

Gotta get me a new version of Photoshop for my laptop. GOTTA.

  7. Oooh, he kind of reminds me of Howl. In the best kind of ways.

  8. Very nice. I wish I could explore my characters by drawing them. I like the air of mystery in his face. It's the eyebrows, I think.

  12. That guy looks like a character from a video game my daughter plays: Tales of Vesperia.

Anyway really cool drawing Natalie! It looks like your photoshop skills are quite sufficient.

Today's guest blogger is The Alliterative Allomorph!

  13. I don't draw, so I might not understand this, but how do you create something like that in photoshop? Do you draw it, scan it, then spruce it up? I have no concept of how you managed to make something so gorgeous!

  14. Great stetch! Is he tall? He looks tall. I love the tall. =)

  16. Writingyourfeelings, I used a drawing tablet, which you plug into your computer and then you can draw directly onto your screen. It's like a mouse but a million time BETTER.

Carolyn, Geoff is pretty tall. Tall and thin. This is why he likes to wear suits though he's only like 19. He says it makes him look good. Geoff likes to look good.

  18. *DROOL* Can I take him home with me?......

....no, seriously. I want to take him home with me. Yum!

  19. Also, I (and I am sure everyone else) feel special that you're giving this "game" some real attention! I am so excited that we get to help with a story and read it as you write it.

Maybe once the book is done (someday) you could revise it online, as some sort of scientific experiment.

Anyway, I just wants to say thanks! and I am foaming at the mouth for the next installment of "The Assitant"

  20. Ooh, I love it! (and i love that he is tall; my men have to be tall since I am. hehe) That is great that you can accomplish getting to know your characters while drawing them. I wish I were a good artist.

I can't wait to see what you've got going on next week!

  23. *fans self* Oh my. :) He's pretty. I love your sketches; they're always so gorgeous!

Also, you've definitely got me intrigued: contests, prizes, whaaat?

  24. And you call yourself an amateur?

I have a question though. Is he wearing gloves, or are his hands really that skeletal? I mean, it's cool, in a creepy - I want to know more - kind of way.

  25. Wow this is so cool! I should definitely try this with some of my own characters! haha
