My Favorite Part

I am, like, madly, ridiculously, blissfully in love with my book right now. It's always a little nerve wracking to open a project after six weeks. I mean, I typed the last word and closed it up to simmer. Over the last weeks I've been saying stuff like "It's not as good as I think it is," "It still has so many problems," "It's not very marketable and no one will want it."

There's nothing like opening that project and falling in love with it all over again. Sure, it does still have kinks, but there is so much here. Life and quirkiness and so many things I love.

No matter what happens with this thing, this moment, right now, is extremely rewarding. Better bask in it. You know, before it goes away.

(Second fave is when my crit partners gush over it like it's the best thing ever written. Doesn't always happen, but when it does... :D)

  13. Good! I so needed to hear someone say something like this! I haven't looked at my project since the beginning of December. I plan on opening it up again the beginning of Feb. I hope that I can share the same sentiment as you are with your story!

  14. I love it when this happens. Especially when you read over a sentence or a particular scene and go "wow, I can't believe I wrote that. Those are the best moments for me. Of course sometimes they end with me banging my head on the desk but of well.

  15. That's always a good sign. I love it when I come back to something I've written and say, 'wow, did I really write that?' =D

  16. So strange the same thing is happening to me right now. I'm returning to the book I was working on before the disaster that is holidays in retail happened to my life. And I'm just in love with it all over again!

Kind of convinces you that you're on the right path, you know? It's a good feeling!

  17. When I put my book aside at the end of September, I was tired of it. Everything I wrote was drivel. Why did I think I could successfully write a Jane Austen sequel? *cue melancholy music*

I spent two months working feverishly on a different project (which I also hate). I planned to pick my novel up in December, but I knew I'd just hate it even more if I did. Instead, I spent that month writing for something fun for my friends.

It worked. When I opened my novel up two weeks ago, it amazed me. Hearing Darcy's voice come through was the best feeling in the world. Is it still rough? Well, yeah--but it doesn't suck, and I love writing it.

  21. That's wonderful! Even if the feeling doesn't last forever, it's fantastic to know that you've got great bones in the manuscript to work with. That will make the edit so much easier. Good luck with it!

  23. I'm glad you're happy! For me, I know something I wrote is good when I try to edit it and end up just reading it instead. Those are such great days.

  25. That;s great! I hope I have the same reaction... it's daunting to put the book aside when you're so used to being absorbed in it every day.
