Okay, I'll admit it. I like drawing mermaids—and faeries and elves and girls in pretty dresses. I try to pretend I'm tough, but I guess most girls have that princess-loving tiara side, too. Hey, I just have broad interests, right?
So, mermaid. Hope you like her. I don't think I've ever drawn one for the blog. Though I did
draw a merpire for Carrie, which turned out pretty awesome seeing as I laughed the whole time. Good times, that.
FIRST! i love love her! i love mermaids! can't wait for all the YA mermaid books out this year!
ReplyDeleteWow-I love her--she's so pretty. And this is coming from someone who grew up dreaming of being a Disney animator, so I have high standards. :)
ReplyDeleteFound your blog through a retweet--not sure how I missed it all this time--so I hope you don't mind that I'm following you now. (I promise I mean that in a NON stalkerish way) I love connecting with other writers online. :)
I love it Natalie!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and fun... now I'm daydreaming about plots involving mermaids :-)
This might be my favorite one so far...I adore her hair! So cute.
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love the expression of her face, and the way her hair floats around her. Gah, I want to be her!
ReplyDeleteAwesome drawing. For some reason, I find that little fin above her tailfins a spectacular detail.
ReplyDeleteYou know a merpire could be properly terrifying if handled the right way. "Swimming in Blood" would make a catchy title. ;-)

Oh my gosh, I love her! Why oh why can't I draw? I love her eyes.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty :)
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, as always! Mermaids are TOTALLY the new vampire this year for YA...although I think you're onto something with the merpires. :) Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI think the merpire pinup just found his dream girl...
ReplyDeleteMerpires! The wave of the future!
ReplyDelete(And hey, despite the giggles, he's a pretty good looking merpire.)
Another great sketch, Natalie! It was great to meet you last night. Thanks for being so gracious!
Love this sketch!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Emma
This is one of my favorites that you have done, of course, I am very partial to the black and white drawings.
ReplyDeleteThere is something in her expression....
Well done.
shelley
Wow! Thanks amazing. You have tons of talent.
ReplyDeleteomg, I am so showing this to my daughter. She's crazy about mermaids and always wants me to draw them. Of course, mine never come out as pretty as that.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Merpires... she's very cute. And I'd agree with the princess thing. I may or may not have some Disney Princess dolls on my desk. And my faithful American Girl Doll on my bookshelf... it's not pathetic if my husband thinks it's cute! ;)
ReplyDeleteShe's gorgeous!! :D
ReplyDeleteLove the translucent hair!
ReplyDeleteAnd the merpire reminded me of how funny Carrie's parody really was. sparkle sparkle sparkle
Oh! The float hair, the pretty tail...this makes me want to write about merpeople. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome pic!
ReplyDeleteI guess we all have our girly side. I'm a tomboy, but I love pink and Disney movies. lol!
Another awesome drawing. There's a mermaid in my WIP so I especially love this. Her hair is amazing. So fun to hang with you again.
ReplyDeleteMermaids are cool, so are merdudes. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove her. She's great. Even down to the floating necklace.
ReplyDeleteWow - am so jealous right now. Loved this post and I know exactly what you mean - we all have our inner princesses.
ReplyDeleteI think that deep down we all have a princess-loving tiara side. Am I the only one who was bouncing up and down when I heard about the Princess and the Frog?...I hope not because that would be lonely.
ReplyDeleteGreat, now I'm gonna be huming under the sea all day.
So cute! I love her.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if this is answered elsewhere in your blog, but did you take drawing lessons or are you self-taught? I used to draw as an accompaniment to my writing as a kid, then stopped when I got to be a self-conscious older teen. Now I'm starting again, and I'm not as good as I was at fifteen! I'm always debating whether to take some lessons or just let practice take its time...
awwww she's fabulous! I like her too.
ReplyDeleteGreat!
ReplyDeleteAlthough now I'll have to go draw a mermaid. Or maybe a merpire. Insert childish "lol" here.
Beautiful mermaid. I wish I had the ability to sketch things and make them look like more than blobs on paper.
ReplyDeleteas usual I love your sketches! This one is great! She is beautiful! Wonderful! Mermaids are so fun, when I was a kid that was what I wanted to be - yep a mermaid! ;o) I'm a dreamer, sue me. lol its why I write.
ReplyDeleteNow I want to see her in color. I keep trying to imagine what color her tail should be. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love mermaids. Seriously. Laura and I always played mermaid together when we were little. Pillowcases make great fishtails. Just as an FYI.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite sketch of youirs for some while.
ReplyDeletethat is pretty cool...i like to draw but it never comes out good all the time....i like your drawing its really pretty
